Privacy policy
Last updated:
This policy explains what personal data we process when you visit lexibo.app and when you use the Lexibo app for iPhone and Android, why we process it, and what rights you have.
1. Who is responsible
The controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Germany
Email: hello@lexibo.app
You can reach us at this address with any question about your data.
2. This website
lexibo.app is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. (101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you open the site, Cloudflare processes your IP address, the page you requested, the time, and your browser’s user agent to deliver the page and protect it from attacks. Cloudflare keeps these logs only briefly. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The website uses no cookies, no analytics and no tracking. Fonts are served from our own site, so no data goes to font providers.
3. The Lexibo app
Your account
You sign in with Google or Apple. We receive your email address and an account ID from that provider and use them to create your Lexibo account. If you choose “Hide my email” with Apple, we only receive a relay address. In your profile we store your name (if you give it), your native language and the language you learn.
Scanning pages
Text recognition runs on your phone (Google ML Kit, on device). The photos you take are not uploaded to us. The pages you scanned recently are stored only on your phone.
Translations and pronunciation
When you tap a word, a phrase or a sentence, that text is sent to our server and on to Google Cloud Translation, which returns the translation. To read words out loud, the text is sent to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech. Google processes the text as our processor and doesn’t use it to identify you. We count how many translations you make per day to apply the limits of the free plan.
Speaking a word
If you speak a word into quick translate, your phone’s speech recognition from Apple or Google turns it into text. Depending on your phone and settings, this happens on the device or with Apple’s or Google’s speech service, under their privacy policies. We only receive the resulting text.
Saved words and training
The words you save, their translations, the sentence you found them in and your training progress are stored on our server so they sync between your devices. The server is hosted by in .
Subscriptions
Pro is bought through the App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google handles the payment; we never see your payment details. We use RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) to check which plan you have. RevenueCat receives your Lexibo account ID and the purchase information from the store, but not your name or email address.
Crash reports
If the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a report to Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA) with technical details such as the error, the app version and your phone model, so we can fix it. The reports don’t include your words or your email address.
Legal bases
- Your account, translations, pronunciation, syncing and subscriptions are needed to provide the app you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Crash reports, usage limits and protection against abuse are based on our legitimate interest in a reliable and secure app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
4. How long we keep your data
We keep your account and saved words until you delete your account. You can delete it at any time in the app’s settings; your account and all your words are then deleted from our server. Daily translation counts are kept only as long as needed for the limits. Crash reports are deleted after 90 days.
5. Who receives your data
We only share data with the service providers named above, each bound by a data processing agreement: Cloudflare, Google, RevenueCat, Sentry and Railway. We don’t sell your data and don’t use it for advertising.
Some of these providers are based in the USA. Transfers there rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
6. Your rights
You have the right to:
- get a copy of your data (Art. 15 GDPR)
- have wrong data corrected (Art. 16 GDPR)
- have your data deleted (Art. 17 GDPR)
- restrict how we process it (Art. 18 GDPR)
- receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20 GDPR)
- object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21 GDPR)

7. Children
Lexibo is meant for people aged 16 and over. If you’re younger, please ask a parent before you use it.
8. Changes
We update this policy when the app or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version.
